The home knitted sweater was the item to wear around the 1900’s for fisherman. They did not take it off the entire time they where at sea. This could lead to sweater and skin to becoming one. If the sweater was removed by soaking the fisherman in oil, he would die. His skin had lost its resistance against bacteria it relied to heavily on the sweater. The change we made in the last 100 years, from wearing one handmade item so intensely it became part of the body, to the heaps of mass produced we where only once….
